Vintage Santa Claus Christmas Card, Victorian Holly & Berries Design

Between Santa and his floral surroundings, there's a dynamic that can only be described as home invasion: his face has burst through a cluster of holly leaves, mouth wide open in the grin of a man who has absolutely seen the inside of your bedroom. The embossed silver border at the bottom announces this greeting is intended 'TO EVERYBODY,' which is doing a lot of work given that this particular Santa — with his asymmetric, slightly cross-eyed expression and flushed nose — looks like he's had a very specific and personal message in mind. Flanking his enormous disembodied head: a spray of red berries so aggressively round and plentiful they border on obscene, a small bird perched nearby as if also concerned, and holly leaves rendered in a sickly silver-green that suggests the artist was working through some unresolved feelings about the color palette.
