Vintage Thanksgiving Turkey Greeting Card | Early 1900s Chromolithograph

This turkey seems absolutely convinced it's the most interesting person at the party, having fanned out its magnificently detailed tail — white-tipped, black-barred, fanning nearly the full width of the card — while turning its scarlet, wattle-heavy head away from the viewer in practiced, runway-model indifference. The iridescent green-black body feathers suggest the bird has a skincare routine, and frankly the effort shows. Behind our protagonist: a green barn door with a visible latch (locked, notably — either keeping something in or keeping someone out), plus a bundle of hay that screams 'rustic ambiance, no notes.' The 'Thanksgiving Greetings' text printed across the bottom in elegant script is doing a heroic amount of work trying to reframe what is essentially a portrait of an extremely self-possessed animal posing directly in front of what may be its own execution chamber.
