Vintage Thanksgiving Greeting Card with Turkey & Harvest | 1900s

This turkey—strutting front and center like he owns the dining room he's about to be eaten in—presents his iridescent green-black body and fully fanned tail with the confidence of a bird who has absolutely no idea what's coming. His white-and-red head is rendered with an almost portraiture-level dignity, one piercing eye locked directly on you, daring you to reach for the carving knife. Behind him, a cornucopia overflows with grapes, corn, and what appears to be a peach and a pumpkin, a whole harvest spread assembled as if to say 'look at everything else you could eat instead,' and yet here we are. The gold Art Nouveau scrollwork border and the glowing halo radiating behind his head give this condemned bird a genuinely messianic energy, which is either deeply poetic or the most unhinged thing Victorian greeting card artists ever produced.
