Vintage Christmas Card: Santa Telephone Child Victorian Greeting

The card reads 'Christmas Greetings,' but what it's actually depicting is Santa — full-bodied, red-suited, and holding a telephone earpiece to his ear — looming above a little girl in a blue dress who is perched on a chair and leaning into a wall-mounted wooden telephone box, the two of them connected by what is presumably the world's most festive surveillance call. The holly branches framing the scene read as cheerful seasonal decor, but the composition — giant bearded man hovering overhead, small child dutifully reporting in — has the energy of a North Pole HR violation waiting to happen. The gold background does nothing to soften the fact that this card is essentially depicting Santa's early prototype for wiretapping.
