Merry Christmas Welcome to our home

Description

Distinctive for its domestic chaos rather than chimney elegance, this Victorian-era Christmas greeting card depicts Santa Claus in his iconic red suit on an interior staircase, crouching to offer what appears to be a dog biscuit to a bulldog. A large sack labeled 'ST. NICOLAS' sits at the bottom of the stairs with toys spilling across the floor. Two children peer from a doorway at the top of the stairs, watching the scene unfold below them. A black cat is also visible near Santa. The detailed chromolithographic illustration captures an unusually chaotic interpretation of Victorian Christmas traditions, where gift-giving has devolved into treat negotiations on someone's stairs.
