Vintage French Christmas Card: Santa with Children & Gifts

The way Père Noël has dramatically tipped over an enormous wicker basket to let absolute chaos rain down on two unsuspecting toddlers — toys, wrapped boxes, a toy trumpet, and various other debris cascading onto the ground like a festive avalanche of poor planning — is genuinely alarming. He's dressed head-to-toe in powder blue with white fur trim, which somehow makes him look less like Santa and more like a Victorian ghost who got lost on his way to haunt a manor house. The smaller child reaches up with both arms in what could be joy but reads distinctly as 'please stop,' while the other stands with resigned, dead-eyed acceptance — the thousand-yard stare of a child who has seen too many Christmases. The French 'Joyeux Noël' at the bottom is doing a lot of heavy lifting to convince us this is a wholesome scene.
