Victorian Yuletide Greeting Card: Children with Holly, 1890s

The scene presents two children in full Victorian dress — a boy in a sailor suit kneeling on the floor and a girl in a ruffled purple-and-white frock with matching hair bows — engaged in what appears to be a solemn, ceremonial ritual around an absolutely enormous Christmas pudding, as though performing a liturgical rite upon a brown dome-shaped god. The pudding is roughly the size of a boulder and surrounded by more holly than any reasonable person would consider appropriate, because apparently in Victorian England the correct response to yuletide joy was to bury things in shrubbery. Meanwhile, 'A JOYFUL YULETIDE' is literally carved into the mantelpiece behind them in stone, which is the most passive-aggressive way imaginable to remind everyone in the room to have fun. Neither child looks like they're having any.
