Edwardian Christmas Card with Holly, Bell & Winter Cottage Scene

Two figures stand suspiciously still while a third crouches in the snow doing God knows what near a frozen pond—a tableau that suggests the best way to express 'Peace on Earth' is apparently through a gold bell dangling next to an aggressively spiked holly branch that looks ready to impale someone. The green and gold Art Nouveau border is doing its absolute best to class up what is essentially Victorian children loitering in the cold outside a red house, presumably because they're not allowed inside. John Winsch, who copyrighted this in 1911 (yes, they actually put that on the card), clearly decided the most festive typography choice was to make each letter of 'A Merry Christmas to you' a completely different color and font, a decision that reads less like holiday cheer and more like a ransom note assembled by elves.
