Victorian Valentine's Day Greeting Card with Red Hearts & Daffodils

The artistic decision to position two massive red hearts looming behind the daffodils like corporate overlords at a performance review is where this card's emotional logic begins to crack. The daffodils — pale, yellowish, and slightly wilted-looking — are doing their best down there in their blue-striped vase, accompanied by what appear to be tiny bleeding heart flowers dangling off the side like they've given up entirely. The whole scene is wallpapered in a suffocating mosaic of pink and gold hearts, framed by a border of yet more gold hearts, because apparently one type of heart motif was considered emotionally insufficient. Whoever received this in 1910 either felt deeply loved or mildly trapped — possibly both.
