Victorian Token of Love Girl with Flowers Chromolithograph Card

What immediately strikes a modern viewer is the bizarre staging: two Victorian children enact what can only be described as the world's most passive-aggressive floral transaction. A boy lurks behind an enormous basket of greenery while a girl in a striped dress studiously ignores him, instead performing a deeply focused petal-examination of a single daisy. The whole scene is framed by a giant blue heart and a cascade of red floating hearts, because apparently subtlety was also not invented yet. An open book at the bottom proclaims 'A Token of Love' in ornate lettering, which tracks — because when you think undying devotion, you naturally think being ghosted by a girl who finds your flower arrangement less interesting than a single detached petal.
