Victorian St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun Greeting Card | The Wearing of the Green

Formally dressed in a full green tailcoat, matching trousers, and a tall top hat, this dapper gentleman has apparently decided that the correct place to stand is directly inside an enormous decorative pot overflowing with shamrocks — because the floor, presumably, was beneath him. He's holding a single clover aloft like he's just discovered fire, his expression radiating the smug satisfaction of a man who has absolutely nailed St. Patrick's Day. The text 'The Wearing of the Green' floats nearby in medieval-style lettering, which is doing a lot of heavy lifting to explain why this otherwise normal-looking dandy has chosen to nest in a giant plant pot like some kind of well-dressed bird. Artist Ellen Clapsaddle has signed her name in the corner, presumably to claim credit for what is, at minimum, the most committed commitment to a color palette in recorded history.
