Oh! The joy, the bliss of Hallowe'en!

Description

Against the warm orange and cream palette of autumn festivities sits a decidedly darker scene: this 1920s greeting card celebrates Halloween's golden age through the eyes of playful children witnessing a macabre spectacle. The charming illustration depicts a girl in a blue polka-dot dress holding a candle and a boy in checkered overalls standing before a wooden gallows from which a man's head dangles. Jack-o'-lanterns and apples are arranged at the base, while a bat appears in the upper left corner near the card text. This juxtaposition of innocent figures and unsettling imagery makes it a quintessential example of vintage Halloween ephemera.
