Vintage Halloween Greeting Card with Children and Jack-o'-Lantern

A knife-wielding boy in a polka-dotted clown suit, a terrified girl in a blue dress clutching his arm, and a jack-o'-lantern with actual tiny legs scuttling at their feet — this is apparently 'Happy Halloween' in Edwardian standards. The gold cursive text helpfully explains that unless you personally babysit this armed little psycho on Hallow-e'en, he will be 'alone with some queer things' and have 'a dreadful fright' — which, given that he's already armed and in costume, seems optimistic at best. The pumpkin's leering carved grin and stubby limbs suggest the real threat isn't the knife-wielding child but whatever Victorian illustrator decided ambulatory produce was wholesome holiday content.
