Vintage Halloween Greeting Card: Pumpkin Head Beau, Early 1900s

A man with a pumpkin for a head, dressed in a black formal jacket with yellow heels, kneeling on one knee to hold the hand of a young woman in a pink floral dress — apparently Victorian society's idea of a perfectly normal romantic scenario. The text reads 'May I Be Your Hallow-E'en Beau?' which is doing a lot of heavy lifting to normalize interspecies hand-holding. She's smiling, he's grinning (carved, obviously, because he has no choice), and together they've created the most cheerful depiction of a vegetable making romantic overtures that lithography has ever produced. The yellow heels on the pumpkin-man are frankly the most disturbing detail — somewhere out there, a jack-o-lantern has better footwear than you.
