1908 New Year Greeting Card with Child in Pink Dress

Somebody thought the ideal way to ring in 1908 was to photograph a small girl with flowers in her hair, hands pressed together in what can only be described as desperate prayer, gazing upward at enormous pink numerals decorated with climbing roses — because apparently the best way to celebrate 'Happy New Year' is with a child begging God for mercy beneath a floral year sign. The stormy, churning grey sky behind her suggests the year 1908 itself is a weather event, and honestly, given what the 20th century had planned, she was right to be concerned. Hand-tinted pink dress, pink numbers, pink roses: whoever made this card had one color of paint and absolutely no intention of stopping.
