Description

Pink roses arranged in a dark vase grace the side table beside which an elegant woman in flowing chartreuse drapery reclines in intimate reading. This exquisite Art Nouveau greeting card captures her repose against opulent furnishings including a burgundy velvet chaise longue with ornate gold heart motif accents and a large gilt-framed mirror or window. A cupid/cherub peers in from the upper left corner, adding whimsy to the composed scene. The chromolithographic technique produces rich, saturated colors and soft transitions characteristic of high-quality greeting card production from the turn of the twentieth century. Decorative heart motifs on the furniture and refined artistic treatment create an atmosphere of romance and refinement.
