Victorian Valentine Card with Dutch Girl and Doves

Her arms are flung so wide, this tiny Dutch child in yellow puff sleeves, floral bodice, blue apron, white winged bonnet, and wooden clogs looks either accepting the adoration of her dove congregation or about to conduct a very small orchestra of birds. Five white doves orbit her like satellites drawn to her terrifying, vacant-eyed charisma, because apparently 'To my Sweetheart' was best communicated in the early 1900s through the imagery of a child summoning a bird cult. The clogs, the bonnet, the doves — this card is doing so much folksy heavy lifting that it forgot to be even remotely romantic, and yet here it is, earnestly insisting it's a love token.
