Vintage Halloween Witch Greeting Card, Early 1900s

Between the smiling witch and her pumpkin-headed child guest, an utterly normal dinner arrangement unfolds: she holds a small flag or wand over what appears to be a dessert on a white-draped table while the child—whose entire head has been replaced by a grinning jack-o-lantern—stands politely beside her as if this is totally standard. A black cat rears up on its hind legs at the left, presumably asking for a bite, blissfully unaware that the pumpkin-headed child at the table HAS NO MOUTH. The whole scene is framed in an ornate golden arch with a demonic face perched at the top corner, because early 20th century greeting card designers understood that Halloween means inviting your decapitated gourd-children to a nice sit-down meal while hellbeasts watch approvingly from the architecture.
