Edwardian Christmas Girl with Wreath and Gifts Vintage Greeting Card

A suspiciously cheerful little girl in a red coat, plaid skirt, and an aggressively feathered black hat is the most absurd thing about Frances Brundage's 1910 gift to the world—she's knocking on a door while somehow simultaneously clutching a wrapped gift, a holly wreath, AND maintaining what can only be described as the smile of someone who absolutely knows what she put in that basket on the ground. The holly exploding from the upper corner and the vine creeping up the right side of the frame suggest that nature itself is closing in on this child, which, honestly, same. She's performing Christmas with the manic energy of a department store elf on hour eleven of their shift, and the fact that she's brought gifts AND decorations AND still had room for a little basket suggests this girl came to absolutely destroy you with holiday cheer whether you want it or not.
