Victorian Easter Greeting Card with Pink Flowers and Bells

Possessed of an unsettling floral intensity, John Winsch's 1912 copyright features Easter bells that are absolutely *drowning* in pink and red primroses — not resting nearby, not complementing the bells, but physically erupting from them like floral shrapnel. The poem, rendered in that aggressively ornate drop-cap script, informs us that 'righteous hearts exult for the Spring,' which is doing a lot of heavy lifting for what is essentially a card about bells wearing flower hats. The garland of three bells cascading down the center creates a strangely vertical, almost processional composition that feels less like 'Glad Easter Greetings' and more like the opening shot of a Victorian horror film. 'Again o'er the land is stealing' — sir, that is not a comfort.
